Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)/Screening (PGS) with IVF

Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) & Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis in (PGD) Delhi

What is the importance of PGS/PGD?

Pre-implantation genetic Screening (PGS) or Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) plays a crucial role in increasing the chances of pregnancy for infertile couples.

What Is Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)?

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a procedure that is used to diagnose embryos for known genetic disorders that both the patients and partners can carry. The process helps ensure that the embryo is in perfect condition and will be born without any birth defects or disabilities. Pre-implantation genetic screening in Delhi & pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in Delhi services are offered at Advance Fertility Clinic.

PGD is used to determine underlying conditions, including:

  • Beta Thalessemia Trait
  • Sickle Cell
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • SMA 1
  • Tay Sachs
  • Fragile X

What Is Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)?

Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) screens embryos to ensure 23 pairs of chromosomes (22 autosomes and the sex chromosomes X & Y) are present in the embryo and there is no aneuploidy. Advance Fertility Clinic offers pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in India.

PGS is usually recommended for:

  • Women of advanced maternal age
  • Couples with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Couples with repeated IVF failure
  • Male partner with severe male factor infertility

Is PGD/PGS Indicated For You?

In case the couple has a history of recurrent IVF failures, recurrent pregnancy loss, are of advanced maternal age or have a family medical history of having any genetic conditions, then you are a candidate for PGD/PGS.

Process of PGS/PGD

  • The PGS treatment involves the basic steps of IVF (hormonal injections to grow multiple eggs in the ovaries, extraction of all eggs through transvaginal aspiration and fertilisation of eggs with sperms in IVF laboratory) followed by biopsy of embryos on day 3 or day 5 (preferable).
  • On day 3, embryo blastomere is extracted from the 6-8 cell embryos and sent for the PGS/PGD in the genetic lab, and healthy embryos can be transferred in the same cycle on day 5.
  • On day 5, blastocyst, the biopsy of the trophectoderm is sent for the PGS/PGD in the genetic lab, and the embryos are then cryo-preserved in that cycle.
  • The patient is then re-prepared for the frozen embryo transfer, if the biopsied embryos are normal, and then the embryos are thawed and transferred. PGS in India is a uprising branch of assisted reproductive technology (ART) that helps in improving the success rate of IVF.

There are numerous benefits of getting an advanced scan done to determine if the embryo for the IVF process is healthy and does not carry any genetic defects in it. The test is especially mandatory if either of the partners has a family history of genetic defects. The process is also recommended for couples who have faced unfortunate miscarriages or multiple failed IVF cycles. Here are some benefits to consider:

  • Genetic testing of embryos improves the quality of embryos being selected for the IVF process.
  • It prevents genetic transmission of disorders and disabilities.
  • It boosts the chances of a healthy, full-term pregnancy.
  • Quicker turnaround time as our experts will work with healthy embryos first, significantly improving the chances of a successful pregnancy.
  • It is a sound financial decision as you will be investing in procedures that have a higher success rate.
  • The Genetic testing of the embryo process can also help in highlighting underlying fertility conditions that can be treated by our experts to improve chances of conceiving without enduring failed attempts.
  • It reduces the stress of constant worry that soon-to-be parents have about the health and well-being of their unborn child.
  • The process ensures that any genetic defects are avoided not only in the current set of offspring but also in upcoming generations, making it an effective way to combat the generational carrier phenomenon.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD/PGS) at Advance Fertility holds great significance in India as an advanced technique within IVF. In order to increase the chance of a successful pregnancy, this procedure entails genetic testing of embryos prior to implantation in order to detect genetic abnormalities.
