PGD & PGS Testing

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)/Screening (PGS) with IVF

Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis in (PGD) Delhi

What is the importance of PGS/PGD?

Pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) or pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) plays a crucial role in increasing the chances of pregnancy for infertile couples.

What Is Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)?

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a procedure used to diagnose embryos for known genetic disorders that patients and partners can potentially carry. The PGD testing process helps ensure that the embryo is in perfect condition and will be born without any birth defects or disabilities.

A PGD test is used to determine underlying conditions, including:

  • Beta Thalassemia Trait
  • Sickle Cell
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • SMA 1
  • Tay-Sachs
  • Fragile X

What Is Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)?

PGS testing in India is an emerging branch of assisted reproductive technology (ART) that helps in improving the success rate of IVF. The process screens embryos to ensure 23 pairs of chromosomes (22 autosomes and the sex chromosomes X & Y) are present in the embryo and there is no aneuploidy.

At Advance Fertility Clinic in Delhi, we’re proud to provide PGS testing and PGD services that improve IVF success rates.

We Usually Recommend PGS for:

  • Women of advanced maternal age
  • Couples with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Couples with repeated IVF failure
  • Male partner with severe male factor infertility

Is PGD and PGS Testing Suitable for You?

In case the couple has a history of recurrent IVF failures or recurrent pregnancy loss, is of advanced maternal age, or has a family medical history of having any genetic conditions, then you are a candidate for PGD/PGS.

The PGS and PGD Process

  • The PGS treatment involves the basic steps of IVF. That includes hormonal injections to grow multiple eggs in the ovaries, extraction of all eggs through transvaginal aspiration, and fertilization of eggs with sperm in the IVF laboratory. We then perform a biopsy of the embryos, preferably on days 3 and 5.
  • On day 3, embryo blastomeres are extracted from the 6-8 cell embryos and sent for PGS/PGD in our state-of-the-art genetic laboratory. Once we confirm the embryos are healthy, we transfer them in the same cycle on day 5.
  • By day 5, the embryos develop into blastocysts. At this stage, we perform a blastocyst biopsy of the trophectoderm and transfer it to our genetic laboratory for PGS/PGD. After that, the embryos are cryopreserved in the cycle.
  • The patient is then re-prepared for the frozen embryo transfer. If the biopsied embryos are normal, we thaw and transfer the embryos for successful implantation.

Benefits of PGS and PGD

There are numerous benefits to performing a PGS and PGD IVF test to determine if the embryo is healthy and without genetic defects for the IVF process.

The test is especially mandatory if either partner has a family history of genetic defects. We also recommend the process for couples who have faced unfortunate miscarriages or multiple failed IVF cycles.

To summarize, here are some of the key benefits:

  • Genetic testing of embryos improves the quality of embryos being selected for the IVF process.
  • It prevents the genetic transmission of disorders and disabilities.
  • It boosts the chances of a healthy, full-term pregnancy.
  • You get a quicker turnaround time. Our experts will work with healthy embryos first, significantly improving the chances of a successful pregnancy.
  • It is a sound financial decision. You will be investing in procedures that have a higher success rate.
  • The PGS and PGD IVF genetic testing of the embryo process can also help in highlighting underlying fertility conditions. Once discovered, our experts can potentially treat them and improve the chances of conceiving without suffering through failed IVF attempts.
  • It reduces the stress of constant worry that soon-to-be parents have about the health and well-being of their unborn child.
  • The process ensures that any genetic defects are avoided not only in the current set of offspring but also in upcoming generations. It’s a highly effective way to combat the generational carrier phenomenon.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD/PGS) at Advance Fertility holds great significance in India as an advanced technique within IVF. In order to increase the chance of a successful pregnancy, this procedure entails genetic testing of embryos prior to implantation in order to detect genetic abnormalities.

IVF with PGD at Advance Fertility in India significantly contributes to successful outcomes by allowing for the identification and selection of healthy embryos prior to implantation. This advanced genetic testing technique ensures that embryos free of chromosomal abnormalities are chosen, increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy and reducing the risk of genetic disorders.

The process of Genetic Testing of Embryos involves collecting a small sample of cells from embryos created through IVF. This sample undergoes advanced genetic testing to assess chromosomal health, identify genetic abnormalities, and determine the viability of each embryo.

Advance Fertility seamlessly integrates Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD/PGS) with IVF treatments to enhance the success of assisted reproductive procedures. Before embryo transfer, genetic testing is conducted to identify chromosomal abnormalities or genetic disorders. This personalised approach allows our team to select the healthiest embryos for implantation, increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Advance Fertility’s expertise extends beyond IVF with PGD in India through its comprehensive approach to reproductive medicine. Our centre is renowned for offering a range of fertility services, including genetic testing of embryos, fertility preservation, and surrogacy.
